Supporters of a woman's right to choose safe, legal and accessible abortion and birth control face an unprecedented challenge this fall. The U.S. Supreme Court decision July 3 in the "Webster" case was a serious blow. The Missouri law the court upheld bars public employees and facilities from providing abortions, effectively denying the right to choose to millions of women. Working-class and poor women will suffer most from the court's ruling.
In addition, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear three more cases in the fall which could further restrict women's right to abortion. Two involve parental consent for young women seeking abortions. The other case involves making abortions unavailable in clinics in their current form.
At the same time, the response among those who wish to defend women's right to abortion has been overwhelming. Our challenge is twofold. We must
effectively mobilize those who wish to defend women's rights, while mounting a broad, national and visible response to the government's reactionary moves.
You are urged to attend a statewide March on Columbus Oct. and a second national March on Washington Nov. called by the National Organization for Women.
Mark your calendar for these two events! Ten buses have been reserved for the Washington march. Seats are $35. For the Columbus march, it is especially important to outmobilize the so-called "Right-to-Lifers" who plan a march in Columbus the day before.
For more information, please call CLEVELAND NOW, Marilyn Ettinger, co-president at 338-4711.

National Coming Out Day is a call to action! It is a day to be truthful, powerful and liberated. It is a day for each of us, and each of our organizations, to take our next step in the process of coming
out.
National Coming Out Day is designed to encourage lesbians and gays and their families and friends to enlarge the circle in which they are "out" about homosexuality and the issues that concern the lesbian/gay community.
If the AIDS epidemic has taught us anything, it has made it clear that we will only achieve equality under the law if we are out and visible. We will only be treated with respect and dignity if we expect and demand it. This cannot be done from the closet. Our ability to "pass" and to hide has perhaps been our greatest liability. Most people don't think that they know anyone who's gay, and that's what we get for hiding.
Start today by planning your activities on an individual basis, with your local organizations, on a political level, and with your family and friends.
On October 11 celebrate and join with others throughout the country:
Take your next step! •Wear an NCOD t-shirt or button Participate in a National Coming Out Day event in your community.
Whatever your next step is discover it, declare it, take it! You personally
make a difference!
We are everywhere! National Coming Out Day is about demonstrating and celebrating that fact.
